She was named to start in the second row but was omitted to the bench prior to kick-off but that didn't stop Phillips from making her mark on the game as she did a tonne of work defensively on what was a tough St George forward pack.
Roosters' hooker Nita Maynard set the tone for the underdogs early on as she shot through a hole in the Red V's defensive line, giving her side a 6-0 lead that put the Dragons on notice.
Tiana Penitani hit back for the Dragons almost immediately and it looked as though the favourites would be hard to stop from that point on but the resilient Roosters defence didn't allow them to cross the chalk again as they piled on 12 unanswered points to see out the victory.
Roosters' five-eighth Charlotte Caslick was arguably the best on ground as her playmaking abilities gave the Dragons headaches from bell to bell.
Also prominent for the tri colours was Quincy Dodd who bagged a four-pointer in a dynamic display off the bench.
Stephanie Hancock was one of the Dragons' best as the prop rolled forward all day and looked one of the side's most likely ball runners.
