Jameson Monks, 19, of Oak Street, was sentenced for the three offences in Orange Local Court on Monday.
According to police, Monks failed the drug test when he was stopped for a random breath test while driving on his own at 1.15am on March 19.
He appeared in court before magistrate Elizabeth Ellis who fined him $400 and disqualified him from driving for three months for drug driving and she convicted him without further penalty for driving without a supervisor.
Ms Ellis also ordered him to be of good behaviour for six months and to abstain from illicit drugs when she gave him a community corrections order for possession of the knuckle dusters.
He was found in possession of the prohibited weapon when he was searched during a traffic stop on July 10.
"I often get told someone has them for their own protection," she said.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring said Monks had no explanation for having the knuckle dusters and they had not been used.
