Benjamin Lee Fitzpatrick, 25, of Webb Street, was found in possession of the drug when police stopped the car he was driving and searched him.
Police stopped his car after seeing him attempt to obscure his face when the police car drove past at 2.05am on March 29.
When he was stopped police saw him attempt to hide 0.37grams of methamphetamine under the floor mat in the driver's footwell.
Solicitor Jo Collings said since he was found with the drug Fitzpatrick has undertaken home detox.
However, magistrate David Day said he could not escape a conviction and his record showed he had been struggling with substance abuse issues for "quite some time".
Mr Day fined him $110.
