The year 7 students spent nine and a half hours writing the 5000 word story and raised close to $900 for The Kids' Cancer Project, an independent charity that funds children's cancer research.
English teacher and Eagle Year 7 program coordinator Emma Flick said the students came up with the plot, wrote, edited and illustrated the book for the Write a Book in a Day competition last week.
"We spent nine and a half hours in the library, fervently writing a beautiful story of acceptance and not caring about others' opinions of you, an important message for youth," Ms Flick said.
The book is titled The Sea to Success and is about Miles Wilson, a Warlpiri man, and his rise to success.
The story follows his story from being a boy in Alice Springs, to becoming a cruise ship lecturer and climbing the rungs of society and raising questions like "what is success worth?" and "how do you keep inspiration alive?"
Ms Flick said each team had different parameters to follow and The Storytellers at James Sheahan had five words that they had to include as well as two main characters, a ship builder and a lecturer, and a non-human character, which was a ladder.
"It was a big stretch, they came up with some great ideas," Ms Flick said.
"They had to set it in the gym and it was the first day on the job for one of them."
To cover the set criteria she said the story involved Miles Wilson meeting a ship builder in a gym on a cruise ship.
She said the team came up with the plot then six students wrote chapters and four did illustrations.
She said all submissions go to sick children in hospital to read and a judging panel will select various winners. The money raised went to The Kids' Cancer Project.
