Groups of Year 11 students had to pitch ideas Shark Tank-style and once accepted, create a concept and a business plan and see the project through to a market day. They had $100 seed money that had to be repaid.
Changes to COVID-19 food regulations two days before the market meant five of the 10 teams had to drop out.
The winning team - Sam Golfin, Jack Brakenridge, Bradyn Nicol and Darcy Climpson - sold Cadbury fundraising chocolates, soft drinks and pizza. The chocolates were sold in advance, thus giving them a kitty with which to pay for the pizzas. An advance deal cut via email with pizza franchise Dominos meant they only had to pay for 30 of the 50 $5 pizzas they ordered.
"We were going to sell by the slice but because of COVID restrictions we could only sell boxes, and we sold out of them pretty quickly," said Jack. Their team raised over $900.
