Campbell entered this year's competition as the number one seed but given Carpenter's resume, was far from an odds-on favourite to take out the trophy.
Reigning champion Robert Payne entered this year's bracket but was eliminated in the earlier rounds of the finals.
Three other winners emerged from the lower grades as Neil Robertson took out Robert Symes five and four in the second-tier competition.
Jim Swift defeated Will Currall one-up, in a contest that went down to the wire in thirds.
Mar Hollingsworth's fourth grade results rounded out the winners as he triumphed over Gordon Pattinson two and one. Assuming both Carpenter and Payne enter next year's championships, the pair will be duking it out for a 15th title.
