The scoreboard didn't read as the Warriors wanted it to but after such a successful maiden Wallerawang Landscaping Cup season, how could you not be proud?
Kurt Beahan's boys came within a converted try of the minor premiers in what was a hostile playing environment.
The game was interrupted by a sideline altercation between United players and spectators but it didn't come close to overshadowing the effort the away side put forward.
But unfortunately for the Warriors, that effort wasn't consistent enough as a pinch of complacency in the third quarter ultimately determined their fate.
After shooting out to a 6-0 lead, the Warriors went back and forth with the Tigers until the start of the second half but when key hooker Mervyn Mackay was sent to the bin for a professional foul, the Tigers went back-to-back, stretching the lead out to double digits.
United fought hard to square the ledger but fell short, bringing their decorated 2020 campaign to an end.
"I'm incredibly proud of the boys' effort," coach Kurt Beahan said. "That was one of my proudest moments as a coach. "We showed a lot of heart and attitude and didn't let them put us to the sword."
The result wasn't what United was after but the goal all season has been to put the Indigenous community on the map and Beahan's happy with what his men have accomplished.
"This side means a lot to us," Beahan said.
"We put in the effort for the family and the community. It was a little bit emotional for some of us after the game. "It wasn't a fairy tale ending for us but it still sort of felt like one."
Even though the aforementioned altercation put a dampener on what was otherwise a great day of rugby league, Beahan holds no ill feelings towards the Tigers as the fans involved weren't affiliated with either club.
"Oberon deserved the win," he said. "We wish them nothing but good luck in the big dance."
