According to police the Clifford Keith Burns, 61, of Goorawin Road, attempted to hug the woman after she presented a collection of bumpers, on March 2.
The bumpers were discarded cigarette butts that were collected so the remaining tobacco could be salvaged.
However, when the woman rejected the hug Burns followed her to a bedroom and bit her on the back of her right arm causing her to yell and cry in pain.
Burns then left and took the woman's phone with him but a witness who was also in the house phoned the police and an ambulance took the woman to Orange Hospital for further assessment.
Mr Day gave Burns a 12-month community-based custodial sentence with electronic monitoring and 100 hours of community service.
