The gallery and museum scored a total of more than $250,000 in grants to help tell the stories of the region and attract Australian and international exhibitions to town.
Orange Regional Gallery was awarded a $65,000 grant annually for the next three years. The gallery will present a series of local, state and international exhibitions, with associated education programs.
The program aims to "facilitate the exchange and production of ideas between artists and audiences and create the conditions for the production of new work in NSW".
Orange Regional Museum was awarded a one-year $63,881 grant. The grant is to "facilitate meaningful cultural experiences for audiences", and the museum said it will encourage visitors to "develop new and deeper perspectives on the culture and history of the region and beyond through innovative exhibitions and education programs".
"Grants like this help to pay for the nuts and bolts of putting exhibitions together," said Cr Reg Kidd.
"The announcement of funding to support cultural programs in regional NSW is good news for the community of Orange. Our Regional Gallery and Regional Museum do a fantastic job putting together exhibitions each year. As well as relying on funding from council, it's good that we can share the funding load with the NSW government."
"Shows like these bring thousands of people through the door and enrich the cultural life of local residents," Cr Kidd said.
The Local Government Authorities' Arts and Cultural Program will provide more than $6.6 million in funding to councils across NSW to support activities over the next three years.
Orange Council, which owns the gallery and museum, was one of 19 councils in regional NSW to attract funding.
"In the first year of the program, councils in regional NSW will receive over 50 percent of the total LGA funding for 2020/21," said state arts minister Don Harwin. "The arts make a vital contribution to the liveability of our communities and improve our wellbeing."
