The accommodation and support services organisation has made the shortlist for a $10,000 boost from the Westfund Community Grants program and now it's the public that gets to decide where the money will go.
Veritas corporate services manager Narelle Stocks said the organisation has been successful in receiving $2500 from Westfund for a specific project, but has the chance to receive $10,000 instead through this grant program.
"Veritas is funded to support disadvantaged families in the Bathurst [and Orange] region to access services, reduce family conflict and ensure the basic needs of children and young people in the family are met," she said.
"However, there is no funding for brokerage to assist these families with, for example, transport to attend support service appointments, food hampers when local charities cannot assist, purchasing school uniforms or funding a school excursion, or paying for glasses for children.
"If successful in obtaining the $10,000 grant, the funds would be used to assist families being supported by Veritas to purchase essential items where alternative sources of funding are not available."
The $10,000 major grant has been created to celebrate health insurance organisation Westfund's milestone of reaching 50,000 memberships, Ms Stocks said.
"The winner of the grant will be determined by public vote," she said.
Voting will close this Friday, September 18 and can be done via www.westfund.com.au/grants/.
