Jayden James Watson of Emily Place was pulled over by police just after midnight on June 6 while travelling south on Peisley Street.
Watson, 23, returned a positive test and was taken to Orange police station, where he blew 0.121.
His solicitor, Peter Ringbauer, said Watson was "aware there may have been an issue" when he got behind the wheel.
"He wanted to get his car home to ensure it was safe, and wanted to take friends home," Mr Ringbauer said.
"He knows it was a stupid thing to do and has shown significant remorse since the incident."
Magistrate David Day said Watson was "had a suspicion he might not be okay" when he got in the car.
"He took the risk of an accident," Mr Day said.
