It was a sloppy start to the campaign for Amanda Hurford's girls but after getting a hold of some of their new combinations, they came home with a wet sail, winning three of their last four contests and qualifying for the coveted fourth position on the table.
"We just scraped in which was really nice," Hurford said.
"We obviously put a few wins together in the second half of the season and came together.
"There were two sides that came together this season and we didn't have much of a preseason so it was hard to build the combinations up."
Not only did some new girls enter the squad, there's a new maestro at the helm of Hawks who hails from New Zealand.
"Lana McGrath is our new coach and she's been really good," she said.
Although the chemistry within the team has improved, it's going to take some sort of collective effort to topple the third-placed Hornets side on Saturday as Tegan Dray's girls have built up a strong level of cohesion over the years.
"We need to be mindful of how long they've been together for," she said.
"They're going to be really tough and they're obviously half our age so we don't want to tire ourselves out.
"The goal for us is to just start every quarter with intensity and try to be consistent the whole way throughout the game."
The Hawks-Hornets clash shapes as the more crucial semi finals meeting on Saturday but there's another collision at the top of the table as Life Studio and Orange City Craig Harvey Mechanical is set to face off against Life Studio for the second week in-a-row after Mardi Aplin's girls took out the 12-time premiers in the final week of the regular season, securing the minor premiership in the process.
Hawks Royal will commence at 1.45pm while the Hornets will get underway at 3.30pm.
