Going into the final weekend, Pete Shea's CYMS needed two things to qualify for the playoffs.
They needed to get the win on the road against Parkes, and they needed Lithgow Panthers to draw with or defeat Ex-Services.
After Phoebe Litchfield's first season goal saw CYMS scrape past Parkes 3-2, the girls hurried to their phones to see if premiers had given them the help they needed.
As it turned out... they had.
Ex-Services gave away a 2-0 lead before sharing the spoils with Panthers, paving the way for the green and golds. "The girls were pretty excited to know that we were a chance," Pete Shea said.
"But they were even more excited when they found out they'd be playing semi finals hockey.
"The talk after the game was everybody played to the best of their ability. The young kids stepped up really well too."
It was smooth sailing in the opening exchanges for CYMS as they shot out to a 2-0 lead but after dropping back-to-back goals to the hosts, the pressure was on in the dying stages.
As it turned out, Litchfield rose to the occasion when it mattered the most, putting away the game-winning goal and booking CYMS a spot in the final four.
There's no doubt CYMS will enter the finals bracket as sizeable outsiders to take home the trophy but Shea highlighted what his side needs to focus on if they want to shock the region.
"We just need to do our own thing and not worry about anything else," he said.
"You see it in the NRL with the Storm and the Roosters... they just stick to their systems and it always works out for them.
"Our attack is gaining confidence and we're always putting pressure on our opposition when we're defending."
Eva-Reith Snare starred for Confederates on the road as she put three past the goalkeeper in a 4-2 win against Souths.
Feds entered the final round in third position on the ladder but after improving its goal differential on St Pat's, leapfrogged the blue and whites and locked in second.
The first week of the finals will feature a major semi finals clash between reigning premiers Lithgow Panthers and Confederates while Pat's and CYMS will clash in the minor.
