The cold snap will come overnight on Wednesday with the chance of snow in the early hours of Thursday in at Mount Canobolas and other higher parts across the region, like Jenolan Caves and Oberon.
The mercury will reach just six degrees in Orange as we endure a real winter blast, but the real white out is predicted after that.
The predictions of snow will continue into Friday morning however heavier falls on the way from 4pm, the Bureau of Meteorology's MetEye website shows.
This snow should remain in areas around Orange, Lithgow, Jenolan Caves, the Blue Mountains and high areas around Bathurst until the early hours of Sunday.
The forecast comes in the back of a series of intense low pressure systems sending multiple strong cold fronts across the region between Tuesday and Saturday bringing snow to the mountains.
Motorists keen to get out and see the snow are urged to exercise caution during the alpine weather and drive to the conditions.
Predicted maximum temperatures
- Bathurst: Friday 10 degrees; Saturday 7 degrees; Sunday 9 degrees
- Lithgow: Friday 9 degrees; Saturday 5 degrees; Sunday 8 degrees
- Mudgee: Friday 13 degrees; Saturday 9 degrees; 11 degrees
- Orange: Friday 7 degrees; Saturday 3 degrees; Sunday 5 degrees
