Orange City Council was told on Tuesday night its target date was June 2022.

That would allow Orange to seek to be involved, possibly as a training base for a competing country, in the 2023 Women's World Cup [football] in Australia and New Zealand.

Council's Community and Cultural Services director Scott Maunder said 'serious discussions' were planned about Orange being included.

"There is a desire from the state, because it is stimulus money, to have it [completed] by June 2022. That is a fairly optimistic timeline, so that's less than two years from today. Though we will do our very best to get close to that," he said.

Mr Maunder said early surveys of the former Country Club golf course site were underway, environmental, heritage and traffic reports were set to be ordered and the first development application for the site would go to council in the next two months.

He said the Cricket Centre of Excellence at Wade Park was nearly finished.

"[It] is in front of schedule. We are expecting that to be finished toward the end of September," he said.

And CEO David Waddell said council was starting work on plans for a mountain bike park on Mount Canobolas.

"We have to get the track approved," he said.

"We are within a week or two of putting out a brief to a consultant to spend the $500,000 the council voted into the budget," he said.

"It will be game on at that point. The first step is to get that approval."
