Karlie Leigh Selwood, 24 of Dalton Street, was watching police lead the man to a police vehicle near her former address when she threatened him at 9.15pm on January 28.
According to police, officers could hear her shouting threats at the man including "every brother in that jail will f*** you c***, and "I'll hammer the mother f***er".
The man asked not to go near her, told police that she had a hammer and tried to pull free from the police.
Police initially told him that she would not hurt him.
However, Selwood then said "I'll bury this in the back of your head," and police saw the claw hammer in her right hand.
She continued to yell "I will kill you" so she was arrested and charged.
Solicitor Gerry Stapleton said Selwood alleged the man had entered her house and damaged a number of items
In Orange Local Court magistrate David Day gave her a seven-month community-based custodial sentence and 40 hours of community service for intimidation, and he convicted her without further penalty for possession of the hammer.
She will also have to attend rehabilitation and treatment.
"This occurred while she was on conditional liberty," Mr Day said.
"The words uttered were very serious, words that would put anybody in fear of their safety."
He said if she continued to offend she would face the state parole authority who could do nothing, they could send her to jail for the full seven months, or they could send her to jail for part of the sentence.
Mr Day also said the possession of the hammer breached a previous order she was given for having custody of a knife so he gave her a new 12-month community correction order.
However, he took no action on other breaches including smashing a glass door and damaging a screen door at a woman's home in 2019, and driving while disqualified.
