Just before driving across the East Orange Creek on Byng Street, you might catch a glimpse of an old, battered metal box with a perspex window.

If you're walking, you'll see it - and have the chance to peer inside at the collection of books put out by the Mason Kerr family in their street library.
The Mason Kerrs - Steve, Kelly, Rowan and Kilty - put the street library up about a month ago for Kilty's birthday after being inspired while living overseas.
"We walked past one every day in Canada on our way to the shops and I wanted one, we got some really good books out of it," she said.
"I wanted it because my bookshelf is full and I wanted to get rid of books but I think everyone else is getting rid of them as well.
"The turnover of books is pretty insane, I thought they'd just kind of sit there but every week we get new books."
She said it had been a good chance to get to know more people in the neighbourhood, too.
"We've been here for six years and we don't get a chance to talk to people but with this we do," she said.
Her husband Steve said he picked the cabinet up from the tip for $10, with the family's old kitchen bench making a roof for the library.
"We had one couple who were so keen because they felt like the library had been taken away from them, so having this was like a godsend for them. It's a bit of hyperbole but they were glad to have something," he said.
