Michael John Frail, 40, of Waratah Avenue, was charged with assaulting police and resisting police as a result of the offence.
According to police, officers were called to Frail's address about 7pm on April 17 with a report that he was outside causing trouble.
When police arrived at 7.25pm he had gone into his home.
Police went to his home to confirm he was okay but when they called for him he appeared at an upstairs window and yelled a tirade of verbal abuse at police then spat out the window.
The saliva hit one police officer on the arm and it landed on the clothing of the other police officer.
Frail then went to the door where he was arrested but after he tried to break free of the police officers he was taken to the ground and continued to struggle and pull his arms away.
Solicitor Lucien Gration said Frail had been working but hadn't been paid and come home in "a bad mood and spat the dummy when police came to see what was happening".
Magistrate David Day said it was a serious matter and required appropriate punishment.
Mr Day gave Frail a nine-month intensive correction order for the assault and a 12-month ICO for resisting arrest.
