That's why Barbarians' captain-coach Jake Kelly wants his side to quickly move past the diabolical 32-4 loss to the CSU Mungoes in Saturday's season-opening Wallerawang Landscaping Cup clash at Diggings Oval.
While the performance from Kelly's men's side was admittedly sub-standard, things turned pear shaped for the away side before the contest kicked off when halfback Mitch Britt was a late scratching, throwing the team's spine into disarray.
"We had to swap everyone around and that put us behind," Kelly said.
"There were set plays organised with guys in key positions and not having those guys in those spots made it hard."
The reshuffle forced Jake Kelly to move into halfback, with fullback Ed Morrish slotting into an unfamiliar five-eighth role (becoming perhaps the tallest second receiver in Mid-west history).
Blake Collins then moved from the wing to fullback, completing an unforeseen change up of the side's 1,6 and 7.
However, it's unlikely Britt's presence would have been able to stop CSU back rower Jacob Watkin who bursted through a hole to score the side's first try.
It was then a barrage from the defending premiers as newly-signed fullback Braydon Wicks - as well as former Panthers' teammate Zach Hunt - both bagged meat pies and by the time the second stanza rolled around, the game was all but over.
"We need to be better," Kelly said.
"I give credit to my boys' efforts... they didn't give up for 80 minutes but some things really let us down - our fitness and defence in particular.
"We need to go back to square one and start with simple football."
It might take more than simplicity for Kelly's troops to bounce back in round two as they're set for an away trip to Oberon to face a Tigers' side that's fresh off a 74-0 thumping of the Lithgow Bears.
"We've got to show up and play for one and other," he said.
"They [Oberon] put a pretty hefty score on Lithgow so we need to get as many numbers there as possible and start again."
