However, this winter will be their last.

After years of being brutally whacked by backsides and the freezing wind and rain of Orange, the old grandstand seating is in line to receive a $100,000 upgrade which is expected to be completed just before the Cricketing Centre of Excellence opens in November.

It means cricket over summer will take place in a venue with very different facilities to last season, as will next year's Group 10 campaign when it returns to the field in 2021.

The seats are expected to be upgraded in October, with the old seats handed down from the SCG to be replaced with flip-up seats designed to increase user accessibility.

It will also tie-in with an Orange City Council push to give the grandstand a fresh lick of paint this year.

Member for Calare Andrew Gee said the Federal Government grant was "a major investment" in the key sporting precinct.

"I think everyone would agree the old grandstand does need a bit of a facelift," he said.

"As Reg [Kidd] has pointed out the original seats are from the SCG so they were hand-me-downs anyway, so I think this will really compliment what Orange City Council is doing here with the centre of excellence.

"I think if we want to continue to attract sporting events to country areas we need to continue making these investments and this is one I think is worthwhile."

Mr Gee also handed out a $5000 funding grant to Nashdale Hall on Tuesday aimed at helping re-vegetation at the facility.

Mayor Reg Kidd said the key part of the funding was to help elderly people move in and out of the grandstand, and thanked the government for its support in securing the funding.
