Alipate Veikoso, 35, formally of Margaret Street, was driving a Ford Focus along Lone Pine Avenue at 3pm on January 29 when police stopped him for a random breath test.
Although he tested negative to alcohol, he told police his driver's licence was disqualified.
He appeared before magistrate David Day, who disqualified his licence for 12 months and he gave him a nine-month community correction order.
Mr Day said it was not the first time Veikoso had driven while his licence was disqualified and he warned him that if he continued to drive he was at risk of going through the custody door.
Solicitor Gerry Stapleton said Veikoso was homeless at the time of his court appearance.
