The city shivered through its coldest day of the year, with the feels like temperature at 9am for the season's first games registering at -5.2 degrees.
The actual temperature was 1.6 degrees Celcius at that time, and managed to peak at 5.1 degrees by mid-afternoon, but the feels-like temperature remained below zero all day, and dipped as low as -6.0 at 7pm on Saturday night.
The 5.1 degrees mark the Bureau of Meteorology recorded edged out the back-to-back 5.6 degree days we recorded in the middle June.
It was still warmer than the coldest July day we've endured in Orange, with a top of 2.1 degrees on July 27 back in 2000.
The new low for 2020 came on the back of a cold front that delivered widespread 15-25cm of fresh snow to parts of Victorian and NSW ski resorts,.
The second in a series of cold fronts started crossing the Victorian ranges on Friday afternoon, with rain tending to snow by late afternoon.
The front reached the NSW Snowy Mountains later in the evening, and by the time the front cleared early Saturday, some of the best snowfalls this winter were blanketing the mountains.
There were some reports of snow at the top of Mount Canobolas, and areas of Oberon and the Jenolan Caves also received light dustings.
