The mother and son will be lopping off their hair as part of a quest to raise $5000 for Ronald McDonald House, while Mrs Williamson will also be donating 30-odd centimetres of hair to become a wig.
"I'm turning 40 and I think everyone goes through a mid-life crisis at 40," she said, laughing.
"I've been wanting to donate my hair for quite a long time, I've grown it out.
"I know plenty of people with alopecia, so I wanted to do something which would then give back."
She said in lieu of presents for her big anniversary, she'd decided she wanted people to support Ronald McDonald House.
"Although I miss the ball every year my nephew was born in Brisbane but the family's from Mt Isa, every time they need to go in they stay at the Ronald McDonald House there," she said.
Most of those family members won't be able to come down to watch Mrs Williamson chop her hair off, and due to restrictions she'll have a revolving door of people visiting across her birthday before the cut, which will likely be livestreamed.
Balian said he was excited to jump onboard after his mum had asked if he wanted to be a part of it, and had been getting teachers and classmates at Orange High School to donate.
"It'll be an excuse to wear a beanie inside," he said.
