Central West Police District Acting Inspector Brian Duffey said police will allege the car went onto the wrong side of the road and hit the pole at 5.30am.
Acting Inspector Duffey said the incident caused significant damage to the car, a white VW Golf, broke the power pole and brought powerlines down across the road.
He said a 29-year-old man returned a positive roadside breath test.
The man was arrested and taken to Orange police station for breath analysis.
Acting Inspector Duffey said the man's licence was suspended and he is due to appear in Orange Local Court on July 23.
