Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen is standing his ground in the face of calls for him to be sacked over a Facebook post about Black Lives Matter protesters.
"I wonder.....How many NSW BLM protestors also protested in favour of full term abortion? The irony.....," Mr Johnsen wrote on Tuesday afternoon.
The comments have attracted widespread condemnation and calls for Mr Johnsen to resign or be sacked.
"I was totally disgusted and offended, I found that they were trying to provoke people about an issue that's really sensitive in the community," she said," Maitland MP Jenny Aitchinson said.
Another Labor MP and Member for Cambelltown Greg Warren described Mr Johnsen's comments as disgraceful.
"His comments are inconsistent with his own community, with the good nature of Australia, it's unacceptable for the Australian spirit and the spirit of Parliament," he said.
Mr Johnsen has since added to the original post.
"Given the reaction, let me make the point clearer. My view is that - we as humans don't have the right to determine what human life is more important than another," he said.
"Others may have a different view, that's also fine by me."
In a message to the Newcastle Herald he added: "Further to many comments, people obviously don't know that in NSW you can now have a full-term abortion."
Mr Johnsen narrowly retained the seat of Upper Hunter in last year's state election.
