The building was used as recreational spot for visitors and local residents in the Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area.
As part of the area plan of management, a Department of Planning spokesperson said the "barbecue shelter was demolished".
"The unserviceable facilities were earmarked for removal in the site's management plan," they said.
This measure is aimed to improve the facilities for visitor experience, protect park values and recreational activities.
Covering more than 1000 hectares, the area attracts different types of activities such as birdwatching, walking and camping.
It is also surrounded by rare and threatened species of flora and fauna, including the rediscovery of four rare greenhood orchids.
The spokesperson added the other nearby day-use areas will be considered for upgrades.
"The existing site will be revegetated and managed within the state conservation area," they said.
Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and not by Orange City Council and Cabonne Council.
The NPWS website states the conservation area is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger and as winter approaches to bring a raincoat and wear warm clothing.
