The accolade was for the Orange winery's Swift 2012 vintage wine.
The invitation-only wine show is organised by Winewise reviewer Lester Jesberg and only gold medal or trophy winning wines are considered. A Printhie Wines' Swift NV Rosé was also in the running.
Mr Jesberg said the sparkling category was, "the best, most keenly contested category of the championship".
"It was the stunning nose of this wine that made the difference in the final decision-making process," he said.
Printhie Wines winemaker Drew Tuckwell said the award is a clear indication that the cool climate of Orange is perfect for creating premium sparkling wine. The winning wine can only be purchased online.
Business changes name after 72 years
After 72 years of trading under the Jack Evans name, Jack Evans Workwear and Embroidery has rebranded.
The Evans family have run the business since 1856, and will continue to run the Peisley Street business under its new name Worklocker Orange.
Co-owner Murray Evans runs the business with his wife Robyn and son Jack and said the renaming followed a refurbishment of the shop that started before Christmas.
"Even before the name change the feedback has been really positive," Mr Evans said.
"The stock is the same, ownership is still the Evans family."

Regional Development Australia Central West has launched a Future Skills Survey to assess current and future workforce demands and identify potential and existing gaps across the region.
The survey is for businesses to help the organisation better understand the skill requirements of specific industries and locations, and highlight any areas that require stronger advocacy.
RDA Central West CEO Sam Harma said if businesses are equipped with the right skills it can lead to improvement and development of industries of tomorrow.
The survey is open until July 3 and businesses and community members can complete it at rdacentralwest.org.au.
