The state government has freed up the rules in line with restrictions on clubs, pubs, restaurants and cafes that also start on Monday.

The changes will mean wineries will not have to provide food with tastings though all patrons will need to be seated.

NSW Wine Industry Association president Mark Bourne said wineries would also be limited by social distancing rules that require only one person per four square metres of space and for people to be 1.5 metres apart.

"The NSW wine industry has faced drought, fires and the pandemic all in a short period of time and we cannot wait to start to make some new, more positive, memories with the wine loving public," he said.

The relaxation will help Orange wineries expecting tourists to return over the upcoming June long weekend from Friday.

"We are looking forward to those travelling to our wine regions in June joining us on this journey, as cellar doors offer new COVID-safe models," he said.

Orange Region Vignerons Association president Nicole Samodol said it was welcome news.

"We're just elated to be able to welcome people back for tastings," she said.

Ms Samodol said tourists had been contacting wineries ahead of the long weekend.

"Speaking to colleagues and members we're getting a lot of enquiries and bookings," she said.

She said hotels and accommodation businesses in Orange were getting booked out by tourists for the weekend.

"It's people who have been in lockdown and social isolation in Sydney and Canberra and in the Blue Mountains."

She urged people to book ahead for tastings as social distancing rules had to be followed.

Ms Samodol said it meant many wineries could not fit 50 people at one time.

At her own winery, Rowlee Wines, the rules will limit them to 10 people.
