Three sides pulled the pin this week, leaving just the Wanderers and 2019 winners St Pat's in the competition and making it untenable to hold a two-club season, which Said said could lead to a chance some players may not come back.

"I'm not sure how it's going to go next year because I've personally enjoyed having Saturdays off," he said.

"A lot of other people are in the same boat... it makes you wonder whether you would come back and play or not.

"I know I could do without it and it would be good to spend more time with the family."

In theory, Said knows he'd survive without the competition side of things but what he's missed more during the break - and what would be harder to move forward without - is the camaraderie he's formed with the playing group.

"I don't miss the hockey aspect as much but I miss the banter with the boys," he said.

The time off's been good for Said as he's been able to spend more time with his family but even though the 30-year-old was going to hang up the stick a few seasons ago, he can't see himself parting ways with the sport anytime soon.

"I'll be playing... I say to myself I shouldn't or I need to but you just keep going because you love the game and the team," he said.

"I do like the idea of spending Saturdays with my two little girls, though.

"With work I'm leaving while they're asleep and they're asleep when I'm getting home. Next year's still a fair while away so I've got some time to think about it."

While there was some apprehension among the playing group, Wanderers' Alex Said knows the majority of his team was ready to take the field.

"We have a fairly young side so the mentality of most of the boys was that they wanted to play," he said.

"The season was going to be shorter and more expensive and might have only had and one versus two finals game but we wanted to play."

Said is a bit indecisive about his playing status in the coming seasons but doesn't think that's shared by his teammates and expects the majority of the team to be front and centre when the PLH comes calling in autumn 2021.
