Police said the car had been unattended at the side of the road when it was set alight, but a Central West Police District spokesperson was unable to provide more details.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, a large co-ordinated search has resumed this morning to locate a man missing in the Blue Mountains area and police are appealing for public help to locate him.
David Bush, aged 75, was last seen around 9.00am on Saturday May 23 at Evans Lookout, Blackheath.
Police have serious concerns for his welfare due to the deteriorating weather conditions in the Blue Mountains area and the fact Mr Bush has not made contact with relatives or police.
Mr Bush is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160-165cm tall, thin build, with short grey hair and brown eyes.
Mr Bush was wearing black nylon hiking pants, a black rain jacket, black down jacket, black beanie and carrying a bright blue small backpack.
He is described as an experienced bush walker and often goes on half day and day long hikes.
Police believe there were many hikers in the area and are appealing to anyone who may have been hiking near Evans Lookout or Grand Canyon, Blackheath on Saturday and may have seen or spoken with Mr Bush, to contact police.
