Mr Reyter said he has been working at Cabonne Council's Cudal workshop for the last three years and is "stoked" to be named a finalist.
"I did my study blocks at Dubbo TAFE, while the other students may have gone out and used the time as a break, I studied every night to learn more about the trade and really committed to it," he said.
"I believe my commitment and dedication has shown and I'm proud of myself for working hard to achieve my goal.
"I didn't have the opportunity when I was younger to finish of an apprenticeship, but Cabonne Council and SkillSet continued to support me."
Mr Reyter said he is anxiously waiting to hear the final results from the Western Region Training Awards.
"With all the restrictions and social distancing measures, it's hard to know when we will hear about the winners for each category," he said.
Mr Reyter also said he finished his apprenticeship in early January is now the senior mechanic at the Cudal workshop.
"I really enjoy what I do for work because I get to fix a variety of items from chainsaws to cars and trucks and everyday is different," he said.
"At the workshop, I've a fourth year apprentice and they have said to me they are learning my tricks of the trade and they appreciate it."
