But as we start to take steps towards recovery, a number of silver linings are beginning to emerge.
Mainly, the innovation of many in the community who have used this unprecedented situation to not just survive - but thrive.
In recent weeks The Central Western Daily caught up with a number of businesses who have adapted their services.
All over the city there are business operators looking for ways to keep afloat until we're `back to normal'.
There are cafes and restaurants offering take-away meal services, there are shops offering contact-free shopping while delivering items to vehicles and there are alcohol companies dropping purchases our your door steps.
It's been amazing to see just how nimble many businesses have been and how open to adaptation consumers have become.
As we start to see an easing of restrictions, we have also been promised a roll-out of more testing and enhanced response capabilities.
So while it is certainly not the time for complacency, many are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Yes, times are tough, but Orange residents are a resilient bunch and through all of this our sense of community remains strong - perhaps more than ever before.
