Several firms, including orchardists Martelli Orchards and wholesale suppliers Country Fruit Distributors, have changed their business models to begin delivering the food boxes.
Prices range from about $40-$150 and can also include meat, honey and eggs depending on preferences.
We had to come up with a Plan B.
- Clint Evans, Country Fruit Distributors
Martelli Orchards owner Domenico Martelli said their usual sales outlets were markets, from the grower's market at Sydney's Flemington Markets to farmer's markets, but they had been closed due to the coronavirus.
So, when the lockdown was announced in March, he turned to deliveries.
"Most of our customers are the top of the market or the bottom of the market. Our major area is the Glenroi area. I'm doing value for money," he said.
Mr Martelli said he was also delivering to areas outside of Orange.
He said he was running out of produce on his own farms and was supplying fruit and vegetables from other farmers. Mr Martelli said he intended to keep the delivery business going after the pandemic.
Country Fruit Distributors co-owner Clint Evans said the company had supplied restaurants, clubs and schools across Orange until the pandemic forced them to shut down.
"We had to come up with a Plan B," he said.
Mr Evans said they had never done a delivery service on a big scale before but customers were embracing it.
"The demand has been really good. We got caught up in a bit of the panic buying. It has plateaued since then," he said.
"It has been a good spread across the board. Older people who wanted to stay at home, people with immunity deficiencies, people self-quarantining."
Mr Evans said they would also be keeping the business going when the restrictions were lifted and the next step was to set up a website for online orders.
