Fitness Perfection is undergoing a makeover during the closure with a fresh coat of paint inside.
Owner Nick Gray said the maroons and pinks left over from the gym's sale three years ago had make way for white, grey and lime green.
"Some areas we can't get to because of customers, which isn't a problem at the moment," he said.
"It's tough, but it's one thing we can be doing - we just have to paint and get on with it."
The former 25-metre pool area, now called the HIIT pit, has also received some attention after the roof was replaced and insulation added.
"That room used to have condensation issues," Mr Gray said.
"It will be warm in winter and cool in summer rather than cold and hot."
Mr Gray hoped gyms might be able to reopen in late June when police enforcement powers are due to lift.
"The biggest majority of our customers are healthcare workers and they need it for their mental health," he said.
Business forum

Mental health
MARATHON Health is looking out for small businesses' younger employees as they tackle the challenges of coronavirus.
The not-for-profit is running a free Support to Skills program providing training to business owners to help them create a mentally healthy work environment.
The program also connects staff to free mental health coaching without the need for a GP referral.
Support to Skills small business liaison officer Cecilia Maloney said many businesses did not have the time or resources to devote to mental health and wellbeing services and felt "ill-equipped" as a result.
