That's how Peter Cornish described the condition of Athena's Voice on Monday as the five-year-old mare is nine days removed from a fifth-placed effort in the Orange Gold Cup and is all systems to go for the $45,000 Sky Racing Active Handicap (2400) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The mile and-a-half distance isn't one she's overly accustomed to but she's been working up to the journey since returning from a seven-week spell in March as she's run 1600, 1700 and 2100m events respectively.
While the distance on Wednesday isn't what Cornish would describe ideal, he's got no doubt Athena's Voice is in good enough shape to give it a real shake up.
"She probably prefers 2100 metres but the extra couple of hundred should suit her," Cornish said.
"She's really loving her work right now. She's right as a button and she's working terrifically and eating well."
Before the Orange Gold Cup - a race where Athena's Voice was rated as a $26 prospect - Cornish didn't give his mare much chance but after watching her battle her way to a fifth-placed finish in a field of excellent horses, he's more than happy to send her back out there less than two weeks later.
"I was over the moon with her run at Orange," he said.
"She got caught up a bit there, too... she should have run third I think. I was very pleased"
If you take out the Wellington race on on April 5 out of the equation, the form guide looks pretty for Athena's Voice as she's placed in three of her last five races and is more than a puncher's chance to do it again on Wednesday on an ideal Good 4.
"A good's her ideal surface. She's not comfortable on the heavier, wet tracks like at Wellington," he said.
"We'll find out if she's up to city grade mid-week... we'll go and have a look and see how she goes."
Athena's Voice has drawn a comfortable barrier four for Wednesday's event and can't be discounted in the fifth race of the day that's set to jump at 3.10pm.
