In the week after people had to book appointments to adopt animals from the RSPCA, the shelter was inundated with people wanting to find pets to keep them company in isolation.

However, since then all visitation to the RSPCA shelter in William Street has been closed to the public with walk-ins not permitted and adoption and surrender processes taking place online.
Shelter coordinator T'mielle Bunt said a couple of weeks ago the shelter sold out of pets due to people having more time to care for a new animal.
"People were coming in constantly, it was really busy," Miss Bunt said.
"We have had a lot of adoptions."
By Friday, April 3, the shelter had one cat left and three dogs.
However a week later on Friday, April 9, there were two dogs, three six-month-old cats, two rabbits, two birds and a duck available for adoption on its website after more pets had been processed.
To adopt through the new process, Miss Bunt said people have to go through all applications online at www.rspcansw.org.au.
"Then we go through some things over the phone [or video chat]," she said.
Once the adoption is approved, an RSPCA staff member will drive the animal to their potential new home for a meet-and-greet. If everyone is happy, the adoption will be finalised.
RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman said the organisation was adapting to the changes as best it can to give animals an opportunity to find loving homes.
