CONCERN about hygiene has led to free parking for those using the Ophir car park.
Mayor Reg Kidd said Orange City Council was continuing to make sure it complied with health authorities' recommendations when it came to the operation of council facilities.
"The latest change has seen the elimination of parking fees at the Ophir car park at the corner of Kite and Lords Place," he said.
"We were concerned that the pressing of buttons on the paid parking machines in the car park could be a potential problem - there was only very limited contact, but anything we can do reduce that risk is worth doing."
Cr Kidd said any measures which made it easier for people to go to work during this time was also worth considering.
"It will be a free car park for the foreseeable future," he said.
"If people have already paid for a season ticket, which gives gives them cheaper parking, they should contact the council to get a credit for the remaining period of their ticket.
"It can be used once fees are re-introduced, on the other side of this crisis."
