Doug's Driving School instructor Dave Toomey has cancelled 21 lessons and four driving tests in one week to minimize the virus spread.
"I didn't want to put students and myself at risk of spreading the virus," Mr Toomey said. "In late March when I received notification the RMS were suspending driving tests, that's when I decided to suspend my lessons."
With 15 years of running the business he said he has never experienced anything like this before.
"It's a terrible situation but I'm following the rules and doing the best I can for the business and my students," Mr Toomey said.
Service NSW have made changes to booking a driver or rider licence test in response to the latest health advice and risks associated with the virus.
From March 30, driver tests across NSW have been postponed for a minimum period of two months, and this applies to all practical driver assessments conducted by Service NSW.
Meanwhile, aged driving assessments have been deferred for a minimum period of three months.
Holders of an overseas licence who have become permanent residents will have to wait six months to convert to a NSW licence.
Non-for-profit organisation Birrang Enterprise Development has also cancelled driving lessons and programs.
The Learner Driver program hosted by Birrang helps Aboriginal and disadvantaged people in regional and remote NSW.
"Cancelling the program has put a strain on the students who are close to finishing and are ready for the test" projects manager Adam Gollan said.
Birrang is following the social-distancing guidelines set out by Service NSW and are unsure of when they will be able to continue lessons.
"Some students are frustrated but it's also impacting their self esteem," he said.
"One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing people, no matter their age, smile because they reached their goal of getting a licence because its a big thing for them and their families."
