Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, executive director health protection NSW, Dr Jeremy McAnulty said she was one of 10 people in NSW to die from the virus.

He did not provide the woman's name and at the request of the family, no further details will be provided.

Dr McAnulty also proved the latest update on COVID-19 cases across the state.

"Yesterday [Wednesday] until 8pm, 116 new cases were reported in NSW, that's down a little from the previous day," he said.

"In total we've got 2298 confirmed cases in NSW now and we've tested over 180,000 people who've tested negative.

"Sadly we've had 10 deaths, including yesterday [Wednesday] the death of a 67-year-old woman from Orange."

Dr McAnulty said of the 2298 cases of COVID-19, 1490 have been acquired overseas, 467 were locally acquired with a known confirmed case or cluster, while 307 were locally acquired without a known link to a confirmed case.

Also, 43 patients are in intensive care due to COVID-19, including 20 who are on a ventilator.

Across the Western NSW Local Health District there are 37 confirmed cases of people with the virus, including eight in the Orange local government area.

Many other LGAs also have confirmed cases including Bathurst (9), Dubbo (6), Mid-Western (4) and Blayney (3).

There are also cases in Cabonne (2), while Narromine, Weddin, Warrumbungle, Warren and Coonamble which have one case each.

There have been no confirmed cases in the Cowra, Forbes, Bogan, Oberon and Parkes local government areas.
