Established in 1991, the annual competition is aimed to honour the works of Australian writer Banjo Paterson.
"Entrants will have until Friday 24 April to post their entries in," Reading and Writing Coordinator Jasmine Vidler said. "Entries postmarked that date will be accepted."
There are three main categories; short story, contemporary poetry and children's writing, with generous cash prizes of $2,000 to be won.
Past local entrants include Angela Malone, Greg McFarland and Isabelle Back.
Competition organisers are yet to decide on the announcement ceremony planned for the Orange Reader and Writers Festival on 1 August, but winners will be publicly announced that day.
The winners of the three categories will have their entry published on the Central West Libraries website.
