Orange's winery cellar doors have been advised they can continue to trade, but not offer tastings, following new coronavirus regulations.
A notice from the NSW Wine Industry Association was circulated to owners on Monday stating cellar doors could operate normally.
It was later updated to say the cellar doors could not offer tastings or on-premises consumption of wine.
Just as pubs can now only sell take away alcohol wineries are able to continue sales at their cellar door.
"Subsequent to the email sent out at 1.20pm today with regards to the status for wine businesses and in particular, cellar doors, I now need to issue an update from the NSW government," it said.
"It is now clear that the directive on cellar doors is that they can remain open but only for the sale of packaged wine for consumption off premise (and take-away food if applicable).
"We now believe that tastings onsite are no longer applicable, nor is the sale of open wine for consumption on-premise at cellar doors.
"There was clearly a disconnect between the Department of Agriculture and the Office for Liquor Gaming and Racing in NSW."
The original notice said they had been "inundated with questions" from wineries.
"Our advice is to consider the options available to you to ensure that you comply to social distancing and hygiene rules as a matter of importance.
"Perhaps consider taking only online or phone bookings for your cellar door business."
Some Orange wineries are also offering delivery services to help customers due to the coronavirus spread.
Heifer Station Wines is offering free delivery of a minimum of two bottles to Orange residents and a dozen bottles elsewhere.
Printhie Wines is offering free delivery for at least six bottles of wine.
The NSW Wine Industry Assocation has also informed wineries about business funding assistance from the federal and NSW governments.
