The NSW and Federal governments make announcements over the weekend about if the country would be going into a full or partial lockdown to deal with the threat of coronavirus, with a press conference late on Sunday eventually concluding cafes would be able to stay open as takeaway-only venues.

"The anxiety levels have been very high but it's riding a wave really," Mr Carver said.

"Everything seems to be changing minute by minute, day by day so we're taking it one day at a time.

"We're just relieved more than anything that we can still operate and offer takeaway services."

He said the majority of his cafe's business have been takeaway, meaning Mr Carver's worst fears were avoided - for now.

"It's great we can still operate and stay open and keep staff employed - that's our biggest concern really, keeping our casuals and staff employed," he said.

On Monday the cafe had transformed into a takeaway-only popup with punters lining up outside and one allowed inside at a time, and Mr Carver said customers had coped well with a fluid situation which would prove the hospitality community's biggest challenge.

"They've been great, in terms of support and adapting themselves to what we've had to change and adapt to keep open," he said.

"It's been a slow decline in coffee and food sales but I think it'll have more of a ripple effect, it's going to get worse before it gets better.

"We've just got to hang in there, I suppose, we're all in this together, we've got to band together and stick together and ride the wave.

"It's not just affecting hospitality, pubs and clubs and gyms have been closed, livelihoods everywhere have been affected and that's the hardest part."
