A statement posted on the event's website on Saturday said the decision was not made lightly.
"We all appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating an awards program for our community and the efforts by our local businesses to complete submissions," the statement said.
"We don't believe that we can give our local community the Business Awards they deserve this year in light of the current health and economic challenges we all face."
Nominated businesses in the 2020 awards will automatically be entered in the 2021 awards and they have been told they do not need to nominate again - they can also edit their submissions during the next year.
The nominations will open in January.
The statement said Orange Business Chamber members had access to complimentary industrial relations, human resources and work health safety compliance support via the NSW Business Chamber.
