Craig Heere, 47, of Torpy Street, had been volunteering with the victim of the assault on January 25, 2020, and attempted to purchase some goods at the end of his shift.
However, when he was told of the price of the goods he refused to pay that much and left without paying for the items.
When the victim left the store Heere confronted him on the street and during an argument he shoved the other man with both hands.
Solicitor Andrew Rolfe said Heere no longer worked at the store and the victim didn't fall over.
"My client acted badly because of the words that were said inside the shop," Mr Rolfe said.
Heere was fined $220 for the assault.
