As Macca interviewed people in the crowd and callers from around Australia the bats loudly announced their return to Cook Park, screeching from the tops of several trees in the park.
Up until now they had only been seen in trees on Ploughmans Lane.
There's 96 coffee shops in Orange.
- Ian 'Macca' McNamara
Macca also had another typically Orange situation to deal with - a colder start to the day than he would be used to in Sydney.
Clad in a beanie and a jacket he gave the weather a mention several times as he wandered through the crowd gathered near the park's historic rotunda.
Among those he interviewed was Kinross Wolaroi Year 12 student Jetta Kennett who talked about her involvement in the school's rowing program.
She said the lack of water in Spring Creek Dam was limiting crews to 1.5 kilometres.
And she told him he was 'hip' for her father.
In the days leading up to the broadcast Mr McNamara met and interviewed people in Orange, including a coffee shop operator, with the interviews played during the show.
"There's 96 coffee shops in Orange," he said.
While Orange has three confirmed cases of coronavirus no one in the crowd was wearing a face mask.
"We live in difficult times," Mr McNamara said.
