Emergency services were called to a property on Old Waugoola Road at Woodstock at 1pm following reports of the incident.

"A man in his 80s was on a horse in a cattle yard and was thrown from the horse," NSW Ambulance Inspector Daniel Clark said.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman has confirmed the man is 81 years old and he suffered head and hip injuries during the incident.

"Three ambulance crews and the specialist medical team in the helicopter were sent to the scene," he said.

The elderly man was airlifted by rescue helicopter to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.
