Therefore 2020 will receive above average rainfall and the following year.
Then according to the rainfall pattern of 1923 to 1929 there was below average rainfall. That will be for some another six-year drought.
Now is the time for each farming enterprise to prepare for drought.
You can do this by:
- Fixing a permanent supply of water.
- Growing hay, making silage and storing grain. At least a minimum of 5 to 10 hectares with a permanent water supply.
- Reparing the property's environmental architecture to adjust to climate change to minimise the effects of drought, fire and flood. To maintain grass cover across the property. Growing the right trees and grasses to suit the land use. Building plant communities according to the landforms.
- Building an off-farm income.
Now is the time to prepare by repairing an old system of agriculture with new technology and importantly new farming expertise that is not found in the local pub.
The government is offering funding, business is ready to buy in and banks are looking for good opportunities.
While it is raining seek good proper authorised financial advise first.
A good business structure and a good business plan is required.
Goals are set in concrete and plans in sand. Both are necessary.
