The club will be launching its first international tour, which comes just over a year after the Blue Bulls made their way to New Zealand at the start of 2019.

The side will play three games over the eight days on the tour, two of them in Christchurch and one in Kaikoura, with the club also linking up with the Canterbury Crusaders - and potentially ex-All Blacks - for training sessions and a charity breakfast.

The group is also scheduled to have a run jet-boating, a trip to Hanmer Springs and doing high ropes courses to pack some more touristy attractions into the tour, which leaves on April 16.

Junior club president Keryn Phillips said it was the first time the club had looked to head overseas and was "really exciting" for everyone involved.

The under 16 side will be the one to head across the Tasman, and Phillips said the change in junior age groups over the off-season played into the group's hands as the team kicked pre-season into gear last month.

"This group was always going to go together but some of them might have been in under 15s and some in under 17s but they're all together now which is good," Phillips said.

The tour has been organised by the same company which managed the Blue Bulls' 2019 trip, and Phillips said Emus were committed to doing the trip every two years.

"That gives time for each group to fundraise with plenty of time, but this group did incredible well to raise two thirds of the cost in a lot less time," she said.

The appeal of the tour is also a massive attraction for Emus, with the club's under 16s stocks having far stronger numbers than expected for 2020.

"We normally see a drop-off in junior numbers about then but they've been really strong," Phillips said.

Numbers have been strong across the board for the junior club, with Emus set to launch a second under 12s side.

Graydon Staniforth has been taking the under 12s but will have more coaches added with a second side, while Pete Roberts, Matt Ward and Tim Ritchie will take the under 14s and Stu Brisbane, Mick Wallace and Andrew Hayden to again take the under 16s.

However, Phillips was most excited to have Danielle Goolagong and Sarah Sokol to be Emus' first female Walla coaches as they take on the youngest age group.
