"Some of the amazons will be $10,000-$15,000 plus," he said.
Mr Ford said changes in breeding programs had seen the once highly-expensive prices for macaws drop substantially.
"Macaws have come down in price. You can pick one up for about $3000 now," he said.
Mr Ford said breeders were incubating eggs leading to an increase in hatchings and therefore providing more birds for buyers to choose from.
He said there would be about 35 trade stands to provide advice, cages, feed and supplies to help people start or maintain their own collection.
The Orange Bird Sale is on from 10am-2pm at the PCYC in Seymour Street.
Entry is $2 with children 16 and under free.
Sellers and members will also meet for their traditional Saturday night dinner.
