WPL and former A-grade skipper Ryan Sinclair, who played in the previous iteration of the WPL, said it was a great thing for the sport in the region and would be a boost to both seniors and juniors.
Football would only be challenged by netball in terms of junior numbers, but Sinclair said so many juniors who didn't make the jump to continue playing were turned off by the lack of pathways to senior football, and the WPL would provide something for younger players "to strive for".
"A lot of these kids get lost to the sport when there's nothing to aim for above A grade," he said.
"Having the WPL back gives them something to strive for."
"We're hoping it'll make for a bigger junior brigade in Orange, there was nowhere for kids to go when it dropped off."
Sinclair said he'd been gutted when the WPL dissolved - although with three teams he knew it wasn't viable - and was thrilled to have it back, as were a bunch of his teammates.
"There was a good core of us who played A grade last year who played in the WPL before it folded," he said.
"We were never going to drop out of it but when it dissolved we were disappointment."
The club's had between 15 and 20 to most sessions for the WPL side - made up from both Waratahs A grade outfits from 2019 - but the club was still searching for a coach to mentor the top-flight side in 2020.
Sinclair is taking the squad in drills in the preseason, but the club is looking to employ someone in the role to step up the professionalism of the club this year.
"The side I played in last year, we've never had a coach and we've hardly ever trained," Sinclair said.
"We want to bring someone in who can help make those calls about who plays and who doesn't."
